FAQs

Custom Design + Fabrication Process

What does the design process look like at de stijl FORMS?
We begin every project with intentional conversation. Our design phase distills your vision down to its essential form—function-forward, site-conscious, and elegantly resolved. Whether you're seeking a refined object or an architectural statement, we design for impact and longevity.

How do I start a custom project with de stijl FORMS?
To begin submit your project inquiry via email or our contact form. We’ll follow up to schedule an initial consultation and/or site visit. Once we understand the scope, you'll receive a formal proposal that outlines the materials, process, and timeline, including a design + planning fee and project deposit.

Is there a minimum budget or project size?
Our work is tailored, not templated. While we don’t enforce a strict minimum, our projects typically start at $1,500 due to the craftsmanship and material quality involved. For all projects there is a $500 design and consultation fee.

Do you require a deposit to begin fabrication?
Yes. A 50% deposit of the estimated project total—plus any design + planning fee—is required to schedule your project. These fees are applied to your final invoice.

What happens after I approve the proposal and pay the deposit?
Your project is scheduled, materials are sourced, and fabrication begins. Every cut, weld, and finish is executed with precision at our workshop. We maintain communication throughout and notify you if changes are required due to scope or supply delays.

Do you install the finished work?
Yes. We offer delivery and onsite installation for most projects. Installation details will be included in your proposal if applicable.

Can I request changes during fabrication?
We understand that refinement is part of the creative process. Minor adjustments may be accommodated, but significant changes may impact both cost and timeline. All scope changes must be approved in writing prior to the deposit being paid.

What if I need to cancel my project?
In the event of cancellation, all work completed to date, including design, planning, and materials, will be invoiced. Deposits and design fees are non-refundable.

What types of materials do you work with?
We work primarily with steel, wood, and aluminum. Each material is selected to align with your project goals and environmental context.

How long will my project take?
Timelines vary based on scope and scheduling, but most projects take 4–8 weeks from deposit to delivery. Larger-scale or highly custom builds may require more time.

Can I see examples of past work?
Absolutely. Visit our portfolio page or follow us on Instagram @destijlforms for recent projects, material studies, and process documentation.

Do you guarantee your work?
Our work is built to endure with proper use. While we cannot guarantee against natural shifts in materials like wood, we fabricate with attention to structural integrity, clean finishes, and long-term function.

Do you showcase your work publicly?
Yes. We reserve the right to document and share project work on our platforms unless otherwise requested in writing.
